I was born in New York a few years ago and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I’ve been blessed with a wonderful life and family. Among my blessings was being a mother to three: two sons and a daughter.
My life was not all honky dory. Like everyone else, I’ve had many ups and downs. After a failed attempt at a restaurant, we moved to Florida for a job promised to my husband. It was a fresh start for us. So with three children ages 9, 8 and 7 in tow and $2,500 in our pocket we took the leap.
Tragedy struck our family in July 2007 when my oldest son was killed in a pedestrian accident. Life was and has never been the same since then. But I tried to make the best of it because I knew that my son would not want me to have it any other way.
In living my son’s dreams I returned to college in my late 40’s and studied accounting. I currently work as a part-time accountant. Sometimes I question my choice. Maybe I should’ve studied literature. Don’t get me wrong, I love accounting; but I also love writing – well, I discovered it after my son’s death.
I’ve been married since 1984 to a wonderful man and, besides my angel in heaven, I have a 30-year-old daughter, a 30-year-old son and a 6-year-old dachshund/chihuahua mix who is the king of our family!
Thank you for taking from your precious time to read about my journey through grief and other stories that I want to share.
